Four Seasons Pack
Description
While exploring Beijing back in 2014, we discovered a beautiful old shop filled with original works of art - many of which were painted on long, narrow canvases. As we sat down with the artist and his wife to look through his books of sketches, it felt like we had just gone through a doorway, into another time. Seeing his interpretation of the world through his art made me realize just how amazing this pale blue dot we live on actually is - the idea that all of us live here, but each of our viewpoints are unique (and equally beautiful) has always stuck with me.
After spending nearly the entire day with them, we convinced him to allow us to use his paintings on our wristbands. This was the original Four Seasons Pack, one of the most sought after sets we've ever made.
This April, while visiting Guangzhou, Jordan and I set out to explore the city. We grabbed lunch at a small place with no seating, so we set out to find a place to rest and enjoy our food. Across the street, I saw what looked like a tree covered walkway, so we crossed over in hopes we could find a place to sit.
Once we rounded the corner, we found out it wasn't a walkway, but traditional Chinese calligraphy school. Outside, the teacher was writing Chinese characters under the shade of a large tree with a display of his artwork behind him. I was seriously in awe. We had always hoped we could find another artist to create a second Four Seasons set for us and this just felt serendipitous. His artwork was so beautiful, so I knew I had to ask. While my Chinese is limited to a few phrases, we were lucky enough to find a student teacher who was able to help translate for us. After an hour of back and forth, he understood what we were looking for (as well as everything there is to know about ZOX) and smiled. I knew this was going to be good.
The second Four Seasons Pack was born.
The following morning, we headed back to that beautiful school. As soon as we walked in the doorway we were blown away - all four paintings were displayed with pride on thin wooden pedestals. Their detail was phenomenal, magnified by the fact that they had all been created in a single night. We couldn't help but giggle a bit as we packed them up, thanking him graciously for his time and noting his address so we could send some of the finished Straps to him.
In Chinese culture, it's bad luck to only have part of a set of Four Seasons paintings. Since we won't be dividing the packs up, we decided to create a Limited Edition envelope that each number-matching Pack will ship in. Like the Straps, these envelopes are very special and will never be reproduced.
I'm beyond excited to finally release another Four Seasons Pack. Like the first set, this one is truly something special.
